On September 1, 2007, the Colombian companies Emgesa S.A. E.S.P. and Central Hidroeléctrica de Betania S.A. E.S.P. merged, the latter absorbing the former and changing its name to Emgesa S.A. E.S.P.
It is now Colombia’s largest power company, located on the outskirts of the city of Bogotá. Operating 13 plants with a total capacity of 3,059 MW, including El Guavio, the country’s largest hydroelectric plant with a capacity of 1,213 MW. Eleven of the thirteen plants are hydroelectric and the other two are thermoelectric.
Net generation in 2015 was 13,705 GWh while total sales amounted to 16,886 GWh.
