“The provision of these first water filters to these educational institutions marks the beginning of a project that we expect to take to more parts of the country, to deliver quality of life, health, and education to all of the communities of this Department and to other locations in the country.”

– Andrés Esteban Chávez Sáenz, vice - director of the Fundación Enel Colombia.

At the Institución Educativa Pueblo Nuevo de San Antonio del Tequendama, Mrs. Alida López is the person in charge of food preparation for the children in this school. She has been one of the first persons in being familiar with the benefits that these water filters offer to the educational community, since for cooking the children’s food and preparing the beverages, she had to boil water from the tap, which normally showed a yellowish color and particles.  Now she may be at ease and be assured that she is using clean water suitable to prepare the student’s food.

“For us, receiving this aid from the Enel Colombia Foundation and the Siemens Foundation has been very important. Today we may offer our children a better quality of life, thanks to the fact of having better quality water, we may reduce the multiple diseases that often prevented them from normally attending their classes.”

– Isabel Peláez, health, protection and social development secretary of the Municipio de San Antonio del Tequendama.

A sustainable change

Additionally, along with the provision of these water filters, a series of educational activities have been developed for the children to be able to learn about the importance of protecting and preserving this vital resource, apart from knowing what these filters contribute towards their health and wellbeing.  In this way, through games that foster teamwork, we encourage them to become small agents of change, and to be able to replicate the message to their families and other people close to them.

This outlook allows for progress to be made, and remain over time, in the communities, transforming their inhabitants into active agents in this process of change.
